What is a Chakra?

Chakra is the Sanskrit word for “spinning wheel” and refers to the energy or power centres in our body. Next to the seven main Chakras along the spine there are said to be up to 88000 further chakras spread all over the body.

Chakras are said to be the gateway to the aura and link our physical, emotional and mental natures and through their constant spinning keep our aura in balance. They influence our organs, circulation, hormonal activity, but also our emotions and thoughts.

First instructions about how to activate chakras appear already in the Indian Vedas around 500 bC.

Many healers all over the world from all sorts of different backgrounds and religions had similar findings with Chakra work. Each chakra has been “assigned” a colour, symbol, Mantra (sound) and element which corresponds to its energetic vibrations and help decoding their esoteric meaning.

Why do Chakras have to be balanced?

A balanced energy field around us shows in good health and vitality, compassion, self-confidence, ability to communicate well, being well grounded etc.

However, due to traumas, childhood experiences, bad habits, physical injuries, cultural believes etc. our chakras can become blocked or over-active and need to be balanced to restore health and well-being.

There are different ways to restore balance, like for example through meditation, Reiki or colour therapy.
